"My value judgment of beauty is informed by my fresh feeling of being alive. Of course the actual feeling might change as time passes. What once had value might be discarded and another thing might gain absolute value. So, I try to think that time stops when I draw. I try not to update myself; I eat the same type of sliced bread for every meal, I listen to the same two minutes of music on loop, endlessly - I eliminate everything except painting and subsistence.

But I can never completely escape from "thinking" or "feeling", and the painting is spun or swung around by these feelings. I try to calm this movement in order to paint, but sometimes I am dragged along by a terribly strong swing. I am perplexed by how these swinging emotions can change a painting - these changes can occur many times, and so the painting becomes multilayered. At the same time, there is always the hope that my attitude or my idea of beauty will be altered, or updated, at any time."

i just spent 4 weeks in Japan,

then i spent two days in budapest,

my friend miranda & a group of friends organised an exhibition in an obsolete building of LSE,

before it got knocked down they filled it with art and performance that celebrated the building's history

'students, patients, paupers'

History of St Philips

The St Philips building, also known as buildings X, Y and Z, was built in 1903 and is rumoured to be haunted. It became part of the LSE campus when the School took over the running of the building in the early 1990s.

Before 1903, the area was a mix of very poor, poor and a few comfortable houses. The Kingsway wasn't laid out until 1905 and from 1871 to 1901 the people living in the 11 houses on Sheffield Street had occupations ranging from engineer, to rag and bone men, to servant cook.

There were shops where the St Philips building now stands. Mr Jewell ran a waste paper merchant shop and was also the rag and bone man. A Cadbury chocolate shop stood on the corner opposite the Old Curiosity Shop, where the North Building now stands. Only numbers 9, 10 and 11 still exist in Sheffield Street, the opposite side was demolished and made way for the building of the St Philips Building in 1903, when the area changed dramatically soon after with the building of Kingsway through all the slum housing.

The use of the St Philips building since 1903 has always been medical, with the LSE medical centre situated in the South Building even now. It opened as the Strand Union Workhouse Infirmary and was used to house the sick and injured from the local workhouse until the First World War, during which it was used as an observation hospital for war refugees. After the war in 1919, it was sold to the Metropolitan Asylums Board for the sum of £20,000. Fifty two beds were created in the North Block and the hospital treated venereal diseases in woman until the NHS bought it in 1952. By this time it was known as the Sheffield Street Hospital.

The NHS chose the name of St Philips soon after they purchased it. The hospital dealt with kidney, urology and nephrology patients from 1969 until closure in the mid 1980s. Across the road at 11 Sheffield Street, there was still a working shop. The last known use for trading at number 11 was by Hepburn and Cocks. They were dispatch box makers and you can still see the sign and facade of the shop today.

At the current time the building cannot meet the School's needs as it is inefficient in its use of space. The proportion of the space that is useable is much lower than in other LSE buildings and disabled access is poor. The School intends to demolish St Philips and develop a building that maximises the site's full potential.

I was early for work the other day so I decided to go to the V&A Museum of Childhood,

if I'm in Bethnal Green I find it hard not to.
they were setting up an exhibition so I hung out in the shop, I found my two new favourite books:

1.Different Like Me, My Book of Autism Heroes by Jennifer Elder
I love the descriptions of all the super cool autistic people, like Andy Warhol and Benjamin Banneker, Grandson of a freed slave in Maryland, he made wrote almanacs including astronomical predictions, his correspondence with Thomas Jefferson and 'entertaining essays'.

i don't remember there being any books about autism at school, but there was a big selection in the museum.

2, Michael Rosen's Sad Book.

Just thinking about this makes me want to cry, the saddest and most honest book i've read for ages, you can buy a signed copy at the museum for £7.99

Michael Rosen's 18 year old son died suddenly of meningitis in 1999 and is one of the things that makes him sad.

He deals with tough subject matter without apology or condescension, a perfect children's book.

drawn and quarterly has published a new book by chester brown 'paying for it' is about his 15 year history as a john.

I feel uncomfortable with the publication of a defence of something I disagree with.

I know i should read it, but it strikes me that Brown is not a typical guy, he seems to be on the autistic spectrum, lacking emotional depth.

Fields of watermelons exploded when he and other agricultural workers in eastern China mistakenly applied forchlorfenuron, a growth accelerator. The incident has become a focus of a Chinese media drive to expose the lax farming practices, shortcuts and excessive use of fertiliser behind a rash of food safety scandals.

It follows discoveries of the heavy metal cadmium in rice, toxic melamine in milk, arsenic in soy sauce, bleach in mushrooms, and the detergent borax in pork, added to make it resemble beef.

Compared to such cases of dangerous contamination, Liu's transgression was minor, but it has gained notoriety after being picked up by the state broadcaster, CCTV. The broadcaster blamed the bursting of the fruit on the legal chemical forchlorfenuron, which stimulates cell separation but often leaves melons misshapen and turns the seeds white.
